Facilitating transparency across construction teams
For this tunnel excavation and construction, Thinkproject was able to bring transparency to various teams, contractors and stakeholders.
Project
As part of a new four-lane highway between Kassel and Herleshausen, the 1.4 km A44 Küchen Tunnel is one component of the 4.3 km highway. A consortium of Marti Tunnelbau AG, Marti GmbH Germany and Johann Bunte GmbH & Co. KG were awarded the project.
Work commenced in summer 2012, including blasting techniques and conventional tunnel mining, with completion in spring 2015.

Challenge
Working in a consortium means many different project teams focusing on different tasks at the same time. It was crucial that these teams were able to communicate and collaborate effectively to reduce downtime, delays or wastage.
Solution
Thinkproject supported this tunnel project with Document & Communication Management, allowing teams to enable workflows that controlled checking and review processes, as well as document and drawing management. A particularly useful aspect was that the review processes by the authority of the Federal State of Hesse were included in these workflows, meaning all information could be gathered and stored centrally.
With the drawing review process consisting of nearly 20 tasks per drawing, traceability was at the forefront of requirements. With CDE INFRASTRUCTURE, just two workflows were needed to create transparency for a complex process.
Result
Within a week of the project kick-off, Thinkproject was able to define the checking processes, document ID schema and configuration of digital signatures for drawings.
Upon project completion, the entire digital construction log was able to be generated within Thinkproject, and safely archived.
