Construction success for Public-Private Partnership road infrastructure projects
Public-Private Partnership projects pose unique challenges with many teams and stakeholders involved.
Project
Highway A9 is one of the most important north-south transport routes in Germany. A consortium consisting of VINCI Concessions and BAM PPP via the project association Via Gateway Thüringen GmbH & Co. KG won the competitive tendering for this Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project in Thuringia. A consortium Arge A9 EW Thüringen, consisting of 50% Eurovia GmbH and 50% of Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG is carrying out the construction work on behalf of the Via Gateway Thüringen.
The project includes maintenance and operation of the 46.5 km route between junction A9 and the border between Thuringia and Bavaria, as well as the 19 km extension of the highway in both directions, including construction of 24 bridges.

Challenge
Works carried out generated approximately 2,600 drawings alone, posing the challenge of organising, storing and disseminating the documents in a structured manner that kept all project participants working from a single source of truth.
Solution
Thinkproject Document & Communication Management has been implemented on several PPP projects, and with a proven record of successful delivery, Thinkproject’s CDE INFRASTRUCTURE functions were once again chosen to support this project.
Result
Thinkproject’s unique and efficient workflow engine was able to automatically implement complex approval processes for this large-scale project. Ten project-specific workflows ensured project teams could perform their tasks with efficiency. Scheduling management was also key, allowing project coordinators to check deadlines and compliance through all project milestones.
