Halle railway hub is upgraded with Document & Communication Management
For this joint venture infrastructure project, Deutsche Bahn called on Thinkproject to assist with document management.
Project
As part of the German Unity Transport Project, the new Erfurt – Halle/Leipzig line joins the Halle railway hub, extending the hub nine kilometres into the town. The aim of this project is to provide an efficient rail service connecting the entire region, enhancing the hub’s strategic importance for regional and long-distance rail traffic.
The project included rebuilding platforms and an upgraded track layout, simplifying the infrastructure and therefore reducing maintenance works. Completion of the works brings the hub in-line with current TSI standards issued by the European Commission.

Challenge
Project teams must navigate the complexities of upgrading rail infrastructure which remains in use. As a major rail hub, it is important that Halle continues to operate effectively for cargo and passengers. Thus, an up-to-date and accurate record of works completed, in progress and pending is required to avoid any delays or down-time.
The teams working on the project were numerous, including external designers, checking engineers, geotechnical engineers and the building inspectors. All these parties need to be working from a single source of truth.
Solution
Thinkproject has previously supported German Unity Transport Project in single projects and was therefore selected for Document & Communication Management solutions that would help project teams organise and disseminate documents, drawings and other paperwork.
Within a single platform, project participants can collaborate effectively by using Thinkproject on handheld devices, making it easy to receive alerts, important updates or sign-off on documents without physical paperwork going back and forth, causing delays or confusion.
Result
With Thinkproject, construction reports, structural analysis, check reports and claims were organised, reviewed and archived with ease.
