Simplifying BIM for infrastructure design, planning and operations
To pilot BIM on this bridge upgrade project, Thinkproject was introduced as the BIM software of choice.
Project
During ongoing upgrades to the A99 motorway, several bridge structures were to be renewed. For this infrastructure project Building Information Modeling (BIM) was utilised through the design, implementation planning, operation and maintenance phases.
Challenge
Introducing teams to BIM affords them more clarity and efficiency. Project managers must ensure all parties are using the technology effectively through a central platform to get the most benefits. To ease onboarding, an intuitive, structured process needed to be implemented.
Solution
With Virtual Design & Construction Management, the project team mapped out their requirements for the use of BIM whilst carrying out the works. For example, 2D drawings were to be derived exclusively from the models, with special attention being paid to data exchange and the use of interfaces.
Result
Thinkproject supported this BIM pilot project for work phases draft planning, implementation planning, and execution of construction works.
Within the platform, the client’s information requirements were created, which served as the basis for creating BIM flow charts. Information was then able to be checked automatically.
