Simplifying flood risk with asset management
Thinkproject supports The Highland Council’s Flood Risk Management team
Project
With many different teams, locations, stakeholders and processes across the largest rural estate in Scotland to manage, it doesn’t take long for the associated effort to build up. This was a challenge The Highland Council were looking to overcome with the goal to streamline their data, reduce duplicate work and have a central source of truth for everyone involved in their projects.
The Highland Council’s Flood Risk Management Team are responsible for the Local Flood Risk Management plan, which is produced and maintained through working in collaboration with local authorities, Scottish Water, SEPA and other organisations with a responsibility for managing flood risk. In North Scotland the Council serves 26,484 km², or 33% of the land in Scotland, including coastlines and low-water islands amounting to 4,905 kilometres.

Challenge
With such a large area to maintain, relying on admin-intensive ways to collect data such as Excel, paper-based documentation and digital cameras took valuable time away from teams who need to maximise their time on-site. In addition, the use of different methods to record data can lead to human error that can be costly to rectify, or cause disruption to the residents of the area.
Solution
Thinkproject Asset Management has been tried and tested for simplifying the pain points of asset managers, where it has been used across the ANZ region for 30 years, including every Local Government organisation in New Zealand. It is a digital geospatial tool designed to support public and private sector multi asset management, and related operational process across all stakeholders.
Result
The map-based interface brings an intuitive way to plan, manage, analyse and visualise the large number of assets the team are responsible for. As well as enhanced clarity, by adopting a focussed asset management solution the Flood Risk Management Team will be better able to collaborate and make informed decisions backed by reliable data.
