World’s longest road and rail tunnel, Fehmarnbelt, chooses Thinkproject as BIM platform of choice
Thinkproject has secured a contract with Femern A/S as the Building Information Modeling (BIM) software for the construction of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel – the world’s largest road and rail tunnel. An important part of the European transport network, total construction is budgeted at DKK 52 billion (EUR 6.9 billion). Thinkproject was chosen as a partner for this project due the company’s ability to offer a complete SaaS BIM solution and 20 years of proven experience as the industry leader in construction intelligence.
Thinkproject was awarded the BIM software contract for the project by Femern A/S thanks to the company’s complete solution offering and its ability to improve collaboration between project participants by providing access to the model information in a simple way. Providing a highly sophisticated and secure SaaS solution, thinkproject’s BIM platform matches perfectly with the project’s requirements.
The planned 18 kilometres immersed Fehmarnbelt tunnel will be a significant advancement to Europe’s transportation infrastructure and is scheduled to open in 2028. It will provide a much faster connection between Copenhagen and Hamburg – reducing travel time by 1-2 hours. This enhanced connection between Germany and Denmark will create new opportunities for freight transport, increase cross-border integration of the labour market, and improve general travel between Scandinavia and Central Europe.
From BIM and CAD management to workflow and audit support, Thinkproject’s BIM solution is able to support the Fehmarnbelt tunnel project throughout every stage of the construction process. Kim Smedegaard Andersen, Deputy Technical Director of Femern A/S adds: “BIM collaboration is an essential part for managing a major project such as the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, and we’re very much looking forward to working with Thinkproject to realise the benefits of this megaproject.”
