Des mach ma! volunteer day

Munich team get involved

On 24th June our team in Munich were able to partake in a day of volunteering with Des mach ma! who organise volunteering days for businesses within the city who are looking to give back to the local community.

Our team of 14 were split into two groups to help out at two amazing organisations where they got to work building and planting, painting and showing off their general handywork!

Supporting AWO München-Stadt

AWO München-Stadt are supporting accommodation in St.-Martin-Straße where currently 70 asylum seekers and their families are living. The residential space was in need of more activities for the children to relax and have some fun, especially with the weather improving.

The team were able to wrap up for the day having painted the children’s playroom and study space, as well as build a seating area outside for families to spend time outside comfortably. The highlight was being able to meet the children and do some games and crafts with them for the remainder of the day.

Green thumbs in use

Our second group got to visit WiDa Wohnen in der Au, who are supporting young adults and families transition to independent living.

This was a chance for our team to flex those garden skills as they helped plant vegetables, spices and plants in the outdoor area. This produce will be a great way for the residents to learn about cooking and nutrition. The team also got to make some insect hotels to make sure the garden stays healthy and happy.

Giving back

We had a fantastic day and extend our thanks to AWO München-Stadt and WiDa Wohnen in der Au for allowing us this opportunity. The day was described as “a lot of fun and a humbling experience” for the team and we plan to offer our teams many more volunteering days to come.

Thinkproject is committed to giving back to our local communities through a variety of different means and skills.
